At violetproject.org, all of our resources are completely free and available for ALL youth! Anyone who is 26 or younger, and living in Maryland, is able to order an STI test kit to their home at NO cost. We test for the most common STIs, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Trichomoniasis (for female patients only) using a swab that can be done by the participant at home. You should typically get your results back in approximately 7-10 days. Once you ship your package back, it will take about 1-5 business days (Monday to Friday) for the sample to get delivered to the lab. Then, it takes the lab 1-3 business days to process the sample. When you get a positive STI test result from Violet, it will be uploaded to your MyChart and you will be notified. Within a couple of days, our doctor will reach out to you to discuss your positive test and prescribe you treatment, all for free! After swabbing, your STI test kit will still be accurate up to 30 days! Because it can take a few days, up to about a week, for a package to get to the lab and be processed, it is good to send your test kit back as soon as possible after swabbing! If you test positive for an STI through the Violet Project, you will be contacted (by phone) by our licensed OB/GYN for a free medical consultation to discuss your results and treatment. During this call, she will ask you if you want treatment for your partner as well, regardless of if your partner has tested with Violet or not! This is called EPT, or Expedited Partner Therapy.
