About Us

Violet was created by Jenell Coleman, MD, MPH a board certified OB/GYN and the Division Director of Gynecologic Specialties at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and Saumya Sao, BA, a research assistant with Gynecologic Specialties and aspiring OB/GYN. With the hope to create a reliable and accessible platform for young people to take control of their sexual & reproductive health, Violet was born.

The Violet Project has three main aims:

  1. To make reliable, comprehensive, and easily understandable sexual/reproductive health education accessible to teens and young adults through a digital platform.

  2. To provide young people in Baltimore City and beyond with sexual and reproductive health services (including condoms, menstrual hygiene products, and self-collect STI testing) free of charge, increasing access and privacy through an online ordering system, and to distribute these products to low-income youth in our clinics as well.

  3. To engage young people in Baltimore City and beyond with the creation of the Violet Project, elevating their voices and empowering them to learn about their health and encourage their peers do the same.

Join us on our journey to make sexual and reproductive healthcare equitable and accessible for all!
