If I had protected sex on my period over a month ago and still haven't gotten my period, will I be okay?

With this specific question, we cannot give a specific answer to your situation as there are a lot of variables, but we will answer as best we can! First, there are a lot of reasons your period may be delayed, especially if you are not on a birth control method (e.g., the pill) that makes your periods regular. Even stress or heavy exercise can affect your period. You know your body best and how long your cycle normally is, so use this as a comparison! Having sex on your perio

How long should I wait after chlamydia treatment to have sex?

It is recommended that you wait 7 days after you take your last medication before having sex again. Your treatment is likely an antibiotic, doxycycline, which you will take over 7 days. Once these 7 days are over, you should wait another 7 days before having sex so that the medications can fully take effect and you are not reinfecting your partner(s) or yourself. If you cannot wait for this, please use protection (e.g., condoms) as a barrier to prevent spreading the infection

I got a positive STI test back from Violet. What's next?

When you get a positive STI test result from Violet, it will be uploaded to your MyChart and you will be notified. Within a couple of days, our doctor will reach out to you to discuss your positive test and prescribe you treatment, all for free! If you have not heard from our doctor, or have questions, you can always reach out to Violet staff by text, call, or email (443-267-7765, info@violetproject.org). You can also take your results to your own doctor if you prefer, but t

Do I have to have discharge for an STI?

No, you do not have to have vaginal discharge for you to have an STI! In fact, many people who have STIs have no symptoms at all, or have symptoms much later after picking up the STI. Because you could have an STI with no symptoms, it is important to get tested regularly! You can get tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea (2 common STIs) with free, at-home testing at violetproject.org/the-violet-kit, or visit your doctor, or a local STI testing site, to get more extensive testing

Why do I feel a tingly sensation on my vagina? What should I do?

If you feel tingly around your vagina or genitals, there could be many causes. You might have irritation from your underwear, dryness, a yeast infection, a UTI, an STI, or other infection. It may come with burning, itching, vaginal discharge, or other symptoms. If the sensation does not go away in a day or few, or is causing a lot of pain or discomfort, you should see a doctor so they can tell you what the cause is and help get you treatment if needed!

How long do I have to mail my STI test kit after swabbing?

After swabbing, your STI test kit will still be accurate up to 30 days! Because it can take a few days, up to about a week, for a package to get to the lab and be processed, it is good to send your test kit back as soon as possible after swabbing! However, waiting a few days before sending it back will not be an issue! Learn more at violetproject.org/the-violet-kit

Can I make a UTI go away without visiting a doctor?

A mild UTI (urinary tract infection) may go away on its own in about a week. To help this, and help prevent future UTIs, drinking plenty of water and peeing often are good practices. However, if symptoms are severe (such as being in a lot of pain), or they are not going away within about a week, then you should see a doctor so that they can prescribe you antibiotics! This will make sure the UTI goes away and does not cause further health complications.

I'm scared I might be pregnant. I haven't told my parents I've had sex, and abortion pills are expensive. What should I do?

First, you should check if you are pregnant. If you have missed a period, you can take a pregnancy test which you can buy at your local drug store, or order online from Violet (violetproject.org/store), though this will take longer. You can also visit various clinics for free testing! If you feel comfortable talking with your parents, they can be a good resource to help you out. Regardless, if you think you are pregnant, you should visit a doctor. This could be your normal do
