Can I make a UTI go away without visiting a doctor?
A mild UTI (urinary tract infection) may go away on its own in about a week. To help this, and help prevent future UTIs, drinking plenty of water and peeing often are good practices. However, if symptoms are severe (such as being in a lot of pain), or they are not going away within about a week, then you should see a doctor so that they can prescribe you antibiotics! This will make sure the UTI goes away and does not cause further health complications.

I'm scared I might be pregnant. I haven't told my parents I've had sex, and abortion pills are expensive. What should I do?
First, you should check if you are pregnant. If you have missed a period, you can take a pregnancy test which you can buy at your local drug store, or order online from Violet (violetproject.org/store), though this will take longer. You can also visit various clinics for free testing! If you feel comfortable talking with your parents, they can be a good resource to help you out. Regardless, if you think you are pregnant, you should visit a doctor. This could be your normal do

Can my partner and I both get treatment through the Violet Project if we tested positive?
If you test positive for an STI through the Violet Project, you will be contacted (by phone) by our licensed OB/GYN for a free medical consultation to discuss your results and treatment. During this call, she will ask you if you want treatment for your partner as well, regardless of if your partner has tested with Violet or not! This is called EPT, or Expedited Partner Therapy. This ensures that your partner can get treatment quickly, and at the same time as you! Treatment is

How can I perform safe sex as a lesbian?
Safe sex between two women, or two men, is very similar to the ways that are taught about sex between a man and woman! Condoms work as a barrier, which prevents skin-to-skin contact and therefore helps prevent the spread of STIs. For oral sex (mouth to genital), while a condom can be used on a penis, for a woman, a dental dam is a good option! Dental dams create a barrier and therefore help prevent STIs. If you do not have a dental dam, you can cut a condom lengthwise along o

How effective is the "pull out" method in preventing pregnancy?
The "pull out" method is when a person with a penis pulls their penis out of their partner's vagina before ejaculating. While this is more effective than doing nothing to prevent pregnancy, it is one of least effective methods of preventing pregnancy. The "pull out" method is about 78% effective, if done perfectly. That means, even if performed perfectly, about 1 in 5 women will still get pregnant with this method. This is, in part, because the penis produces pre-ejaculate du

I’ve been having an odor down there for for a while now. I’ve tried every soap and I’ve never had sex. Why is there a smell, and what can I do?
An odor "down there," or from your vagina or genital region, can be caused by many different things! Odors are common and could simply be normal sweat and bacteria. However, if it is an ongoing, bad smell, this may be a sign of infection. Even if you have never had sex, you may have other types of infections! For example, yeast infections, which may cause a sort of sweet smell, or bacterial vaginitis, which may have a fishy odor, are both common. These can be caused by douchi

Why is my discharge green and clumpy and I don’t have any STDs?
While green, clumpy, or any kind of abnormal discharge from your vagina may be a sign of STDs, it can also be a sign of other infections. One common possibility is a yeast infection, which can cause this type of discharge. It could also be a sign of another bacterial infection. Or, you may have an STD and not be aware of it. If you have abnormal discharge, such as it being green, thick, clumpy, or having a bad odor, go to see a doctor immediately! They can test and see what t
