Can I get symptoms of chlamydia if I had sex 2-3 days ago? What are the symptoms before 7 days? Does my period affect symptoms?

Symptoms of chlamydia typically appear 1-3 weeks after having unprotected sex with somebody who is infected. Oftentimes, people may not know that they have chlamydia - or other STIs (sexually transmitted infections) - because they never have symptoms, or the symptoms appear months later. Occasionally, symptoms appear before 1 week, though this is unlikely. If so, the symptoms will be like any other point. Your period will not affect your existing symptoms. While the most comm

What does it mean if it burns when I pee after sex? Does that automatically mean something is wrong?

While it should not hurt to pee after sex (and it is always recommend that you do pee after sex!), it does not automatically mean any one particular thing. Burning while peeing, after sex or at other times, can be caused by many things. For example, it may be because of vaginal dryness, friction, rough sexual activity causing tiny cuts, or even an allergy to latex condoms or other products you may be using. However, burning while peeing may also be a sign of a UTI (urinary tr

I want to have sex with my boyfriend, but I am scared to get a pregnancy test. Does Violet provide them?

While the Violet Project has had free pregnancy tests in our store before, (violetproject.org/store), we unfortunately do not currently have pregnancy tests. We are working on getting more! Whenever having sex, we recommend that you use protection! Condoms will help protect against pregnancy and STIs! You can also look into birth control methods to help prevent against pregnancy. Check out what works best for you at: https://www.violetproject.org/contraception. You do not nee

If I had unprotected sex 2 weeks ago and my period was due yesterday, am I pregnant?

While we cannot tell you online if you are pregnant or not, your period being 1 day late does not necessarily mean you are pregnant! Your period can change month to month for many reasons. For example, stress, exercise, regular hormone fluctuations, and other factors can affect when your period comes, how much you bleed, and the amount of discomfort you feel. So, if your period is 1 day late, this can be totally normal without being pregnant. However, if you had unprotected

Why are there bumps on my penis if I've never had sex?

Bumps on your penis can be caused by a lot of different things, not just STIs (sexually transmitted infections)! One common possibility is something called pearly penis papules. They are tiny bumps that appear on your penis, usually in a ring around the head that about 1/3 men get. They are harmless and cannot be transmitted to other people. While this is one potential reason for these bumps, we cannot confirm if this is the reason for you over the internet! If you are experi

I've recently been having longer periods and bleeding in between periods. What could be causing this to happen?

While spotting (bleeding a little bit between periods) and longer periods may be inconvenient, they are not an immediate cause for concern as there may be many reasons for these symptoms. If you recently started getting your periods, they may be more irregular in length and time between bleeding, and you may have some spotting. Additionally, if you just started on hormonal birth control (e.g., the pill), you may experience spotting and changes in your period. However, this bl

I get really depressed around my period. Is there anything I can do to feel better?

Your mood being affected around your period is a common occurrence for people who menstruate, as your body and its hormones are changing throughout your cycle. Depression is a common feeling around your period, and is tied to premenstrual syndrome (PMS), or in more severe cases, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Things that can normally help your mental health, such as exercise and plenty of sleep, can help with this symptom too! For more mental health resources, check

I am scared to have sex, even though I take my birth control pill at the same every night. Can I still get pregnant?

While there is always a small chance of pregnancy if you have sex, it is very unlikely that you will get pregnant if you are taking the pill properly! The pill (combined or progesterone only) is supposed to be taken at the same time every day to be most effective. If it is being taken correctly, the pill is 99% effective, or only 1 in 100 women will get pregnant. However, some people do miss a dose (which you should take as soon as you realize you missed it!), or do not take
